Abstract
This paper sets out to propose a model for understanding how an exercise is constructed, utilising the analogy of a ‘lever’. It aims to unpack this model in relation to the purpose and function of exercises in performer training, whilst situating it within the context of Eugenio Barba’s conception of an exercise, and exemplifying it through an examination of Meyerhold’s Dactyl.
